Painters Gloria Tseng Fischer and Mike McSorley are displaying their work at Gallery 90 – MFA’s partnership with the Hospice of the Chesapeake Offices. Gloria is a watercolor painter who studied architecture and developed a unique way of recording her surroundings – by leaving the background blank and up to the viewer’s interpretation. Kay Fuller is a multi-media artist who creates expressionistic figurative works that are a reflection of her innermost thoughts and feelings, inspired by intuitive urges and exploration of color, shape, and textures. Color is used as an emotional tool for expression, with a focus on texture, composition, and depth. Janet Ewing grew up in Annapolis surrounded by art and artists. Her work for this show reflects that, as many of the paintings in this exhibition were inspired by boats sailing on the waters surrounding Annapolis. See Fuller and Ewing’s work at Paul’s through the end of October. Visit mdfedart.com/pauls to learn more about the artists.

When: 08/15/2023 – 09/30/2023

Studying the natural world and its elements has been essential to society and science today. Without these studies, herbal remedies would’ve never grown to become the pharmaceutical drugs we use today, essential agriculture techniques would have never become more than farming near rivers, and astronomy would still be stuck in Aristotle’s Cosmic model, with only the idea of planets moving in a circular shape around the heavens. When in art, the earth’s natural elements still have great influence. Landscape paintings are the most well-known visual of artists connection to the elements, but artists do so much more with the elements. Elemental: Earth, Fire, Water, Air 2023 is an exhibition that focuses on this relationship between elements and artists. Juror Richard Niewerth selected 62 pieces by 55 artists showcasing artists’ use of and representation of the elements. Visit mdfedart.com/portfolio/296 to see the show through September 30. Awards will be announced September 1 at 5 PM.

When: 08/30/2023 – 09/23/2023

The Americas are home to some truly incredible landscapes – from the chilly glaciers to the warm beaches, from internationally recognizable landmarks to artists’ backyards, there is beauty to be found everywhere. Juror Nora Sturges, Area Head of Painting and Drawing at Towson University selected 60 pieces by 57 artists, and this show will be on display at Circle Gallery from August 30 – September 23. Join MFA via Zoom on September 10 for the Virtual Awards Ceremony, and for a closing reception celebrating the artists and their work on September 23. Visit mdfedart.com/portfolio/297 for more information.

The Man and His Music: A Glimpse Into the Music of Marvin Hamlisch

Thursday, September 7 at 7pm The Live Arts Studio Featuring Kevin Cole, Bernard Dotson, Marissa McGowan, Ella Green, Alec Green, and Emily Urbanski Song writers tend to be among the most prolific composers. Often writing at an incredibly fast pace, they strive to contain the emotion and essence of the text they’re setting in a very short amount of time. To be able to mine this type of musical gold once or twice is impressive. To do it multiple times is incredible. To do it over and over is almost unheard of except by the greatest musicians. Marvin Hamlisch was one of those rare people who hit gold over and over and over. His vast catalogue of music features song after song that are examples of how a composer at the peak of his power can fuse a melody and harmony to words so they become one. Join us in the Studio on September 7 at 7:00 PM when six performers who knew and worked with Marvin share these unforgettable songs and the strong connection that remains with them and their composer. I hope you’ll join us for this rare opportunity to meet, hear and talk with these artists, the music and the extraordinary man who wrote it. Tickets are $25 per person and subscribers attend for free! Want to attend this event for free and receive other perks throughout the season? Subscribe today at www.liveartsmd.org!

Children’s Theatre of Annapolis

CTA Presents “Once Upon a Mattress” May 5 – May 21, 2023 Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. For after all, a princess is a delicate thing.

Margie Boynton and Mischelle Wilbricht MFA at 49 West Mar 30 – May 30 Maine Renaissance, an exhibition of the work of Margie Boynton and Mischelle Wilbricht, signs of renewal and hope in the midst of a wearying global pandemic, loss, and healing. This exhibition speaks to the idea of rebirth, for Margie, the joy of discovering her own voice and identity as an artist – and finding inspiration instead of loss in Maine. Margie has a deep connection to and love for the state of Maine, as she grew up spending summers painting the shores with her late father, Lee Boynton. Mischelle first visited Maine to set up for a show of Lee Boynton’s work and has gone back every year since. Her time in Maine has become a way to heal from her current battle with Breast Cancer, and to focus on her passion for art and adventure. Margie and Mischelle’s travels to Maine have been the foundation of a wonderful friendship that has come full circle to their show, Maine Renaissance. See the show at 49 West through May 30. Visit mdfedart.com/portfolio/49west to learn more about the artists.

Jen Sterling and Richard Niewerth MFA at Hospice of the Chesapeake Apr 14 – End of Jun Jen Sterling and Richard Niewerth will have their work exhibited at Gallery 90, MFA’s gallery at the Hospice of the Chesapeake Offices from April 14 – the end of June 2023. Both Sterling and Niewerth are inspired by and view color as an essential part of their work. Sterling’s use of color in her abstract paintings is meant to inspire energy and excitement from within, to empower the viewer to do something bold and take risks to achieve their dreams. Niewerth’s oil paintings are visual metaphors that capture a fragment frozen in time through color, as well as form, light, space, and surface. View the work online at mdfedart.com/portfolio/hospiceoffice.

Reflections MFA Curve Gallery Apr 15 – May 31 The reflections in this show are both literal and metaphorical. There is art made of the light bouncing off glass or water creating a distorted version of reality, and there are pieces that hint at the artist’s internal thoughts and emotions that are then up to the viewer’s interpretation. There are fifty-five pieces in this show by fifty artists selected by Juror Denise Carson, Professor of Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Awards will be announced May 1 at 5 PM. Visit mdfedart.com/portfolio/279 to see the show through May 31.

Lissa Abrams and Mary Ellen Geissenhainer MFA at Paul’s Homewood Café May 2 – End of Jul Representational plein air painter Lissa Abrams and realistic colored pencil and mixed media artist Mary Ellen Geissenhainer will show their work at Paul’s Homewood Café from May 2 through the end of July. Lissa focuses on the human figure and the landscape, capturing a moment in time. Mary Ellen focuses on contemporary still life drawings, assembling objects to create collections and tell stories. Visit mdfedart.com/pauls to learn more about the artists.

Words on the Thirds 3rd Wednesday each month 6-8:30pm Poetry and art can serve the heart, soul, mind, and community in many ways. Through Words on the Thirds, we intend to create a local community of poets, or would-be poets, to explore the lyrical art that lives within everyone. Words on the Thirds is a year-long program of monthly poetry-writing workshops. The workshops will culminate in a collaborative poetry and visual art exhibition and publication. The Arts Lab invites you to join us on the third Wednesday each month to discover, develop and share your poetic voice. We welcome anyone who is interested in words and how to use them. No experience necessary! Those who attend at least 6 workshops will be eligible to apply for a slot in the exhibition. Accepted poets will be paired with a juried artist member of the Arts Lab and the resulting collaboration will be exhibited in June 2024. The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO), under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor José-Luis Novo, will present “Two Romantics: Brahms & Prokofiev” at Maryland Hall and Strathmore, with guest artist violinist Esther Yoo. The ASO will perform on Friday, March 31st, and Saturday, April 1st at 8 PM at Maryland Hall in Annapolis, Maryland, and Sunday, April 2nd at 3 PM at Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland.

The performance opens with Behzad Ranjbaran’s composition “Esther,” a piece inspired by themes of bravery, tolerance, conspiracy, and compassion in the ancient Biblical story of the Jewish heroine Esther. While Ranjbaran’s music is rooted in neo-romanticism, it is strongly influenced by non-Western, especially Persian classical music. Ranjbaran composed Esther in 2015 on commission from the Binghamton Philharmonic.

Of his composition, Ranjbaran wrote: “Much of the story of Esther takes place in Susa, the ancient capital of Persia famed for its magnificent buildings and beautiful gardens. My music doesn’t follow the Biblical narrative scene by scene; rather it is a reflection on Susa, Esther’s character, the Feast of Purim and the story’s themes of bravery, tolerance, conspiracy and compassion. The first movement, “The Seven Trumpets of the Gates of Susa” refers to the splendid city of Susa mentioned in the Bible and many historical sources. Seven is a mythological number, for example: the seven seas, skies, and the days of the week. This symbolic number plays an important role in the organization of the musical materials, rhythm, and the structure of the piece. New sections often begin with a simultaneous stroke of Tam-tam and bells, each time a step higher. The movement culminates with a brass fanfare again emphasizing the number seven.”

The second piece in the evening’s repertoire features Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with guest artist Esther Yoo. Envisioned as a modest violin concertino, Prokofiev’s Concerto No. 1 became an important symphonic work in both scope and complexity. Prokofiev combined the harsh dissonances and spiky melodies that scandalized his professors at the Moscow Conservatory with romantic passages of elegant lyricism.

Esther Yoo began playing the violin at four years old and made her concerto debut aged eight. At sixteen, she became the youngest prizewinner of the International Sibelius Violin Competition and two years later was one of the youngest ever prizewinners of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. In 2014 she became a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, and in 2018 was selected as one of Classic FM’s Top 30 Artists under 30. In 2020 WQXR named her one of twenty Artists to Watch.

We finish the evening with Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2. The symphony’s sunny spirit – especially the last two movements – and relatively transparent orchestration induced one of the composer’s friends to exclaim: “It is all rippling streams, blue sky, sunshine, and cool green shadows.”  The premiere in Vienna on December 30th, 1877, under the baton of Hans Richter, was an unqualified success.

Live Arts Maryland had a busy March and while things are slowing down in April, there are still a number of concerts and events that you can attend! With her unique interpretations of songs in French and English ranging from American standards such as Cole Porter’s I Love Paris and the Gershwin’s Our Love Is Here To Stay, to French ballads like Edith Piaf’s La Vie En Rose and Charles Trenet’s I Wish You Love, to contemporary tunes and more, you’ll be transported to a fresh and modern world of Cabaret with Mariah Bonner at the Live Arts Studio at 7:30pm.

Then, on April 22nd, we will have our Mainstage season finale with Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem. Witness the majesty and power of the Annapolis Chorale and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra in the Ein deutches Requiem (A German Requiem) by Johannes Brahms. Brahms himself aptly referred to this as a Human Requiem. This setting of the requiem text paints the fragility, sorrow, and beauty of humanity unlike any other setting of the requiem text. This historic masterpiece will be paired with shorter chorale works that speak to our shared humanity. Join us for an evening of compelling choral singing that is sure to touch your soul! As always, we will end the month with our Open Mic Night on April 27th. You can get more information about these events at www.liveartsmd.org!

‘FINDING MEANING THROUGH ART-MAKING’

Month of April: First-Floor Hallway Gallery

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Dr. Elizabeth Hlavek DAT, LCPAT, ATR-BC presents ‘Finding Meaning Through Art-Making’, on display the entire month of April in the Maryland Hall First-Floor Gallery.

Approximately 40,000 works of art have been documented since the liberation in 1945. This collection of artwork – created in camps, ghettos, and in hiding – epitomizes the power of creativity and the strength of spirit. It is striking, especially from the perspective of art therapy, to consider the concept of art-making in the midst of a genocide. That a creative impulse could be attained suggests that it supported survival in some way.

The exhibit represents the artists who secretly created while captive during the Holocaust, and the importance of art-making in response to tragedy.

CRAB Radio WYZT-LP, a low powered FM station based in the Annapolis area will experience it’s revival through Maryland Hall! Street Scenes

MFA Curve Gallery

Feb 15 – Mar 31

This show is an exploration of the world around us. Whether people watching from a bench on Main Street in a small town, or watching the city fly by from the back of a taxi, the roads we travel have stories as unique as the people traveling them. Bustling city streets, quiet suburban lanes, and dusty country roads tell the stories of the people who live there, and what we see on these streets can define a place in our memories. Fifty-five works by forty-three artists selected by juror Matthew Moore, Associate Professor of Photography at Anne Arundel Community College, will be on display in MFA’s online gallery, Curve Gallery from Feb 15 – Mar 31. Visit mdfedart.com/portfolio/278 to see the show.

Marisa Canino, Michael Gaudreau, and Kate Gaudreau

MFA at Hospice of the Chesapeake

Jan 19 – End of Mar

Marisa Canino and Kate and Michael Gaudreau are displaying their work at the Hospice of the Chesapeake Offices. The work will be available to view online through the end of March. Marisa Canino is a primarily self-taught artist who returned to art-making during the pandemic. This series, “Vibrant & Wild” is a collection of animal portraits in bold, non-realistic color that captures and celebrates nature’s small moments and fleeting details before they vanish, and highlights the connections we share with animals who inhabit our environment. Kate Gaudreau is not driven by a desire for a realistic depiction or the grand view. Instead, she narrows in or a part of the landscape or a smaller piece of intersections of shapes and lines. Kate’s small gouache and mixed media paintings reflect her personal response and connection to the natural world and the beauty within it. Michael Gaudreau grew up around water and woods and finds himself at peace when he can totally immerse himself in studying light and shadow and surprising bursts of colors in the rural landscape. These paintings are what he calls the “moment of light,” where a burst of light illuminates the ordinary and makes them extraordinary. Visit mdfedart.com/portfolio/hospiceoffice to see the work.

In a world of divided attention, the average person has 60,000 thoughts a day; putting pen to paper evokes mindfulness, helps us structure anxious thoughts, and is proven to boost immune function. Our esteemed panelists will illuminate the science behind the therapeutic practice of expressive writing and how you can access your flow state to explore a wealth of possibilities on the page.

Whether you keep a personal journal, dabble with short stories, or possibly started that memoir on more than one occasion, the creative process is underway.

Find the focus and drive you need to finally start that novel, build a collection of essays, or just enjoy lower levels of stress. The late author bell hooks knew well- the function of writing is to do more than tell it like it is, but to imagine how it could be.

AFTERMATH

CURRENT EXHIBITION: CHANEY & MARTINO GALLERIES

Maryland Hall presents ‘AFTERMATH’ – an exhibit focusing on the healing power of art and community that rises up following gun violence. Spearheading this exhibit is a collection of work entitled ‘The Capital Five: Honoring Our Heroes of the Press’ – presented in the Martino Gallery.

This body of work commemorates the lives of Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith and Wendi Winters, whose lives were stolen on June 28, 2018 defending our Freedom of the Press. The featured artists in this collection are Laura Era, Melissa Gryder, Abigail McBride, Rebecca Wallace Pugh and Andrée Tullier. Each portrait artist worked alongside each family to create a large portrait of their loved one.

Adjacent, in the Chaney Gallery is a collection of artwork and creative installations by regional artists Rama Alfarkh, Luis Bello, Kendall Chatlos, Warren Hynson, Joseph Karr, Felicia Reed, and Chrystal Seawood. Curated and produced by AND Creative (Alison Harbaugh & Darin Gilliam), this collection is a representation of healing after gun violence. Through a non-political lens, this work explores an overall community response and how it affects us in our everyday lives.

#ARTGANG2

CURRENT EXHIBITION: OPENSHAW BALCONY GALLERY

By Maryland Hall Artist in Residence: Sheldon Pindell

#ArtGang is a movement any and every creator can be part of. It pushes the idea that all art styles can be considered “fine” and should be able to share the same space and venue as more “traditional” works. We are boundary breakers, noise makers, bold, offensive, loud, and go against the grain. We don’t wanna be like everyone else. We set the trends to follow.

#ArtGang2 is a continued project that explores the concept of taking an object that is typically paired with negative connotation (gas masks), and creating a beautifully bold, eye-catching, thought provoking work of art. Many of the work’s titles correlate with aspects of life… both good and bad. This gives each mask its own story and personality to explore.

So please get lost for a moment, and embrace a different style of art. I give you #ArtGang2. Thank you, and enjoy.

Winter Lecture Series

Winter Lecture – Annapolis: 1942

FEBRUARY 2, 2023

The first full year of World War II brings a rush of productivity to the previously sleepy Annapolis waterfront. As air raid drills, war bond sales, and an expanded Naval Academy define the day-to-day, Dr. Robert Goddard and his small team are quietly posted at the North Severn Experiment Station. They are directed to bolt a rocket engine on a massive seaplane and attempt to fly it. The need is urgent. Within weeks of the start of the project, a young naval aviator flies the hybrid plane, taking off, landing, and, eventually, crashing on the Severn River.

Despite the war, President Franklin Roosevelt insists that Army and Navy continue their iconic football rivalry. The game is played at Annapolis, under most unique circumstances, on the shores of the Severn River. Meanwhile, in Eastport, the Annapolis Yacht Yard hires hundreds of workers, sets up Detroit-inspired production lines, and begins mass-producing wooden warships. The rush of productivity occurs alongside the ruins of the Schooner AMERICA which had been brought to the Yacht Yard for a refit which was permanently delayed by the start of war. Annapolis sailor, historian, and author David Gendell has conducted extensive research into this period, including interviews with those on the scene. His presentation includes a variety of first-hand accounts, unique images, original maps.

Presenter: David Gendell | Author & Sailor

About the Presenter: Lifelong Annapolis sailor David Gendell is a historian, author, and the co-founder of SPINSHEET and PROPTALK magazines. He is the author of “Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse: A Chesapeake Bay Icon” (The History Press, 2020), the first and only book devoted to the history and preservation of the 1875 screwpile lighthouse at Annapolis.

Winter Lecture – Pirates of the Chesapeake Bay: The Oyster Wars

FEBRUARY 9, 2023

It has been over 150 years since the establishment of Maryland’s “Oyster Navy,” a forerunner of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police. It was a necessary establishment for dealing with a lucrative, competitive, and sometimes deadly industry.

In the early-19th century, Maryland and Virginia began passing a series of laws to regulate and limit oyster catching. Anyone who violated these oyster laws became known in the press and by the public as “oyster pirates.” Many dared to thwart the government’s attempts, like the women of the Dancing Molly, the crew of the Palo Alto, and the notorious Cannon Family led by patriarch H.P. “Pirate Chief” Cannon.

The Oyster Wars took a final deadly turn in April 1959 with the murder of Berkeley Muse, a well-respected community leader in Colonial Beach, Virginia (located on the border of Southern Maryland).

Presenter: Dr. Jamie L.H. Goodall | Historian & Author

About the Presenter: Dr. Jamie L.H. Goodall is a historian at the U.S. Army Center of Military History.* She has a PhD in History from The Ohio State University with specializations in Atlantic World, Early American, and Military histories. She is also a first-generation college student. Her publications include a National Geographic bookazine on global piracy, Pirates of the Chesapeake Bay: From the Colonial Era to the Oyster Wars, and Pirate and Privateers from Long Island Sound to Delaware Bay. She lives in Northern Virginia with her spouse and two Boxer pups, Thomas Jefferson (TJ) and John Tyler (JT).

Winter Lecture – Cartoonist at Sea: Two Years Sailing the World Through Photographs and Cartoons

FEBRUARY 16, 2023

For over twenty years, Jim Toomey has been bringing the sea into the homes of millions of newspaper readers through his comic strip Sherman’s Lagoon. Jim will discuss what inspired him to draw a comic strip set under the sea, and with a live-drawing demonstration, he’ll demonstrate how he creates his comic strip.

In the second part of his talk, Jim will discuss his experiences living on a sailboat for two years with his wife, Valerie, their two kids and the family dog, and how he managed to continue publishing a daily comic strip about the ocean while living on the ocean.

Presenter: Jim Toomey | Writer & Cartoonist

About the Presenter: Jim Toomey is an internationally published humor writer and syndicated cartoonist best known as the creator of the popular comic strip Sherman’s Lagoon, published daily in over 150 newspapers, including The Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Chicago Tribune. The strip’s underwater theme, featuring a great white shark named Sherman and his cast of ocean-going friends, appeals to adults and children alike. Jim has just completed his 27th bookpublished by Andrews McMeel.

Sherman’s Lagoon combines Jim’s two life-long passions:  drawing and the sea. Jim’s been engaged in the former activity since he could hold a crayon, and his love of the sea dates back to his early childhood. Jim has done two TED Talks, the first in April 2010, at an ocean-themed TED event in the Galapagos Islands, and the second in 2016 in Cannes, France. He has given similar talks at a variety of venues, from the Royal Society in London to Harvard University to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to his children’s kindergarten class.

In the summer of 2015, Jim and his family purchased a sailboat and embarked on a 14,000-mile journey, which covered most of the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe, some of North Africa, a trans-Atlantic jaunt, most of the Caribbean, and the east coast of the USA.  The cruise ended in June 2017.

Jim currently lives in Annapolis, Maryland, with his wife and two children.

Winter Lecture – Deadly Gamble: The Wreck of the Levin J. Marvel

FEBRUARY 23, 2023

The 128’ schooner Levin J. Marvel foundered in Herring Bay in southern Anne Arundel County on August 12, 1955. The three-masted ship was a carrier converted to a passenger cruiser. The captain was returning to Annapolis from an Eastern Shore cruise with 23 passengers and 4 crew aboard when he encountered the wind field of Hurricane Connie. With no auxiliary power and no canvas aloft, the captain made the decision to run before the wind to anchor off of Fairhaven.

The old ship was in poor condition to begin with and the wind and waves of the storm proved fatal to it. There was no lifeboat so 27 people fought for their lives after being swept from the vessel about a mile offshore. They struggled for several hours, finally, the fist survivor raised the alarm in North Beach. The community set into motion a dramatic and daring rescue response. In the end, over half were killed in the wreck.

The incident was shocking. An inexperienced captain took a decrepit ship filled with unwitting passengers into a hurricane. Manslaughter charges against the captain were soon filed. Coast Guard and Capitol Hill speedily drafted the legislation that regulates small passenger vessels to this day.

This presentation features dramatic slides outlining the story, the heroism and the aftermath of the tragedy.

Presenter: Kathy Bergren Smith | Author & Photo-Journalist

About the Presenter: Kathy Bergren Smith spent nearly two decades covering maritime industrial topics as a photo-journalist for WorkBoat Magazine, National Fisherman and the Port of Baltimore. She lives in Galesville.

School Lunch Series- An exhibition by Lisa DeLoria Weinblatt

December 19 – February 15

Hal Gomer Gallery

SCHOOL LUNCH is a visual essay of contemporary student life in real educational settings. Current cross-cultural issues and their emotional attitudes are explored in the shared experience of school lunch. SCHOOL LUNCH is generated from direct observation, drawing on-site, in lunchrooms and campuses of High Schools and Colleges. Each individual in my paintings, drawn in the moment, is an actual person. My goal is to create humanistic awareness in a framework that is universally recognized. SCHOOL LUNCH underlines perceptions which affirm cultural identity, brings together ideas espousing contemporary social, gender and political concerns while encouraging a belief in the quality of human spirit.

THE ESSENTIALS – An exhibition by Liana Owad

Gallery 194

Liana Owad is an artist working with traditional and contemporary mediums to create sculptures and works on paper. Her work explores the domestic space and addresses the ideas of comfort and confinement in the home. She says of her work:  “The essentials during the COVID lock-down varied greatly by household. These items ranged from food to entertainment to cleaning products. The work in The Essentials is a collection of both cardboard and plastic packaging from store purchased and ordered items roughly over the past year that I began just after the birth of my daughter at the height of an omicron variant spike in January 2022. As my husband and I navigated as new parents in the mists of a pandemic, we chose to order even more of our immediate needs. This allowed us to greatly limit our exposure risks and unintentionally led to this collection. It has grown and taken shape as our essentials have evolved.”

Jen Sterling: For the Love of Art

MFA Curve Gallery

Jan 10 – Feb 10

For the Love of Art is a series of expressionistic abstract works contained within rigid steel hearts by fine artist Jen Sterling. These pieces express the emotion, depth, and energy of love. They are an ideal and unique gift for the art lover in your life.  Color has always had a profound influence on Sterling’s mood. She first bought paint and canvas while traveling the American Southwest in 1990. Her goal is not to capture an image, but to capture the emotion that image captures. Jen’s work is just like her: vibrant, passionate, and creative. Creating work that is fluid, that inspires energy and excitement, vitality and confidence: these give her the greatest artistic satisfaction. See her work online in MFA’s Curve Gallery Jan 10 – Feb 10 at mdfedart.com/portfolio/jensterling/.

Works selected by juror Matthew Moore, Associate Professor of Photography at Anne Arundel Community College, will be on display in MFA’s online gallery, Curve Gallery from Feb 15 – Mar 31. Visit mdfedart.com/portfolio/278 to see the show.

ARTGANG2

UPCOMING EXHIBITION: OPENSHAW BALCONY GALLERY

OPENING RECEPTION FEBRUARY 9TH, 5:30-8:30PM

New Exhibition by Maryland Hall Artist in Residence: Sheldon Pindell

Thank you and enjoy.
