GW Art Therapy & BRAVE Park & Paint Event
June 13 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Free
Join BRAVE (Building Resilience After Very Difficult Experiences) and the George Washington University Art Therapy Program for a free community Park & Paint event for preteens and teens ages 11–18 who have experienced the loss of a parent.
The event is hosted by BRAVE founder Raina McCarter, a Crofton High School student who created the organization to help young people find connection and community with peers who understand their experiences. Held at Allen Pond Park in Bowie, this special event combines creative expression and peer connection in a welcoming outdoor setting. Participants will create a guided lotus flower painting while spending time with other young people who share similar life experiences. The lotus flower symbolizes resilience, growth, and hope through difficult circumstances.
The guided art activity will be led by Jennifer Baldwin, Visiting Assistant Professor and Internship Coordinator for the George Washington University Art Therapy Program, alongside GW graduate art therapy student Rylinn Flater, an Anne Arundel County native.
No art experience is necessary, and all painting supplies will be provided.
