Mark Jaster

  • About the Artist:

Mark Jaster & Sabrina Mandell are Artistic Co-directors of Happenstance Theater. For over 40 years Mark has toured his solo school assembly and residency programs, sharing his solid classical training under 20th century master of mime Marcel Marceau. Since 2006, Mark and Sabrina have performed together at the Maryland Renaissance Festival as Fools named 'O' & LaLa, and have engaged in devising, producing and performing original award-winning works of visual, poetic theater with their 5-person ensemble. (Impossible! A Happenstance Circus, won 3 Helen Hayes Awards, and Moxie: A Happenstance Vaudeville won 2.) They now offer their popular touring duo, Pinot and Augustine, a playful take on the classic European clown performances of the turn of the 19th-20th century. It has toured widely for an array of audiences in the US and abroad, in schools, theaters and festivals.

    • Pinot & Augustine

      Description:

Pinot & Augustine is a classic, family-friendly clown duo inspired by the golden age of circus. Pinot is the authoritarian clown in fancy clothes and white cone hat. Augustine is the appealing red-nosed bumbler who punctures his pomposity. Their show bubbles over with physical comedy, virtuosity and musical surprises from the sublime to the ridiculous: from lyrical melodies on a musical saw to pratfalls and a whoopee cushion. The show is primarily physical comedy, but the minimal text is nevertheless bilingual: Pinot speaks French and Augustine speaks English.
