Description
The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) invites you to submit your qualifications to be considered for a public art opportunity as part of infrastructure enhancements at the county-owned Glen Burnie Public Parking Garage in Glen Burnie Town Center. Applications must be submitted online by midnight EST June 22nd, 2026 AAEDC seeks artists with strong portfolios of past work who demonstrate a proven track record of large-scale public art projects and experience in environmental, iconographic and conceptual solutions for public art. It is desired that the select artist develop a design concept where the artwork is affixed to the garage and not applied directly on the garage façade. For example, a proposed mural project would be painted on an alternative surface prior to being attached to the garage façade. This project is not limited to mural art, but may also include fabricated sculpture or the incorporation of lighting. We welcome artists with experience working in a diverse range of media and incorporating public art into the architectural elements of a project site. This RFQ is open to Maryland artists, with preference given to Anne Arundel County residents. Three artists or teams of artists will be selected to develop a concept for the façade enhancement; each will receive a $1,500 stipend for their work. The artist with the final selected design will receive an all-inclusive budget of $149,500. The garage is located in Glen Burnie Town Center. The project was proposed in the 2022 Glen Burnie Town Center Revitalization Plan. The vision of the plan is that Glen Burnie Town Center will reemerge as a vibrant and inviting place for residents, workers, students, and visitors to gather, with open-space amenities. This project will build upon the momentum of recent public art and programming at the Town Center Plaza and recent enhancements to Rotary Park.
