Featured AAC Artist Series: Betty Pethel

The Arts Council Virtual Art Gallery Series Featuring AAC Artist: Betty Pethel

Betty’s study of art includes years at the University of Arizona, the Anne Arundel Community College, subjects at Maryland Hall and St. John’s, and always in-depth self-study.

It will be observed that Betty’s art includes many eclectic subjects and different styles. Additionally, her paintings seek to engage the viewer in revealing a certain poignancy of “a happening in time”. The art may be capturing a dynamic movement in Nature or a fragile stillness of a subject or interaction that at any moment may erupt into the unexpected. Her paintings seek to invite the viewers to observe unfolding dramas or little vignettes of characters found in the paintings and to explore more deeply “the who are they”? And, so often, she invites the viewer to come, to step into the painting and to be “a part.”
