Marriage for Love or Money? 19th Century Women Tell All in their Diaries

March 13 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for this Zoom talk by Hammond-Harwood House director Barbara Goyette as we look at courtship and marriage for Maryland women in the first half of the 19th century.

Their diaries give us insight into how the influence of romanticism impacted the transactional features of marriage. In the years just beyond the European Regency period of Jane Austen and Bridgerton, American women were finding their own ways to navigate partnerships.

This is a virtual event. Zoom link will be provided to participants after registration.
