October Screening: Häxan (1922) by director Benjamin Christensen

Join us at AND Gallery for a screening of Häxan (1922) — a film that blends a documentary style with some of the most deliciously morbid expressionist effects sequences of the silent film age.

Part scholarly dissertation, part horror film, this absolute masterpiece of early Scandinavian cinema will give us plenty to talk about afterward. As usual, we’ll include a technical demonstration of the soundtrack creation process, along with drinks and snacks.

We’re timing this screening to run alongside our Folklore & Folktales exhibit, so you can wander the gallery and take in the show before (or after) settling into the film. Two ways to get your goosebumps in one night — myth and memory on the walls, and a slow-burn ghost story on screen.
