INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FOR ARTISTS AND CREATIVES

Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts

February 5, 2026 2:00 – 3:30 PM

This session will cover what copyright, trademark, and patent is (and isn’t), how and when protection begins, what rights you hold, and how to register your work. It will also explain how to respond when someone uses your work without permission, including recent changes in copyright law. Whether you’re new to the topic or seeking a refresher, you’ll leave with practical tools to protect your work.

Christia Ravenell is the Staff Attorney at Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, where she provides legal assistance to clients, develops legal resource guides and professional development workshops, supports volunteer attorneys, and participates in advocacy and stakeholder initiatives.
