For 2019, we challenge the poets to write a poem about Maryland. Help us get a sense of this great state and its people.
RULES, RESTRICTIONS, ETC.
The poem must be about or occur in Maryland. It can encompass a famous person, event, or location.
Poems may be no longer than one hundred (100) typed lines.
Poems must be submitted in Word, double-spaced, New Times Roman 12. Any submission not in this format will be rejected.
Poems should be written for general consumption. They may not contain curse words, sexual content, or extreme violence.
Up to three poems may be entered. Each requires a separate word document that can be submitted with one entry form.
The contest is open to all MWA members and to Maryland residents.
Participants do not have to be an MWA member.
The collection of winning entries will be published by MWA. Each winner will receive one copy regardless of how many poems are selected for publication.
The top three winners will receive the following prizes: first place - $100, second place - $75, third place - $25.
The winners will be acknowledged at the annual Maryland Writers’ Conference taking place March 28-29, 2020.
Winners will be asked to read at the MWA annual meeting in June 2020.

Judges will be announced at a later date.
The contest opens October 1 and closes December 30.
Winners will be notified by February 28, 2020.
