TITLE: Studio Arts Coordinator (Full-Time)

REPORTS TO: Director of Teaching and Learning Position

Location: In Person at Maryland Hall

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Hours: Full-time

Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 commensurate with experience

The position summary: The Studio Arts Coordinator leads the Studio Arts Division of the Teaching and Learning Department. This role is responsible for programming and scheduling classes in the four studio arts subdivisions at Maryland Hall: Pottery, Glass, Jewelry & Metals, and Woodturning. The Studio Arts Coordinator will efficiently coordinate cohesive, thoughtful and inclusive programming for these areas. The Studio Arts Coordinator is responsible for ordering all materials for studio arts classes and general studio supplies, maintaining equipment, scheduling service (where applicable) and performing service to that equipment (where applicable). Technical knowledge and skills are required for this role, with Ceramics as the largest technical responsibility.

What you’ll be doing:

● Demonstrate forward planning, foresight and anticipation, often several months ahead, working with studio arts teaching artists on their class proposals for the upcoming season.

● Interface with studio arts teaching artists ensuring regular, professional communication concerning class and workshop logistics.

● Maintain an accurate worksheet of studio class information for the IT support team building each season on our website.

● Become an efficient user in Arts People, to track studio class enrollments, create rosters, cancel and reschedule classes, communicate with students and parents.

● Use the facilities calendar to book studio spaces for classes and workshops.

● Work with the Marketing department to highlight studio arts classes that require additional marketing.

● Review, assess, and appropriately route patron inquiries relating to studio arts class content, to support Guest Services.

● Serve as liaison with the Facilities Department on maintaining and servicing studio spaces and equipment.

● Operate within a set budget to order studio arts supplies and track orders.

● Work with accounting to discuss and approve teaching artist invoices.

● Participate in the shared work of the Teaching and Learning Department team to plan and execute events and a variety of programming activities as needed, which will include occasional evenings and weekend work.

● Use technical applications to organize and coordinate activities including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, graphics and presentation software, electronic calendar, and email.

● Work with the Director of Teaching and Learning to design and implement a system for supporting teacher effectiveness.

● Know and be responsible for glaze chemistry, mixing 12 glazes and maintaining a full stock of back-ups.

● Troubleshoot glazes to solve issues within the chemistry.

● Be responsible for scheduling the three ceramics kiln firings, up to five times per week per kiln.

● Oversee the duties of studio tech(s) who cover the open studios for 9 hours per week, delegating duties as appropriate.

● Manage studio calendars including scheduling kiln firings, ordering clay, receiving deliveries, and tracking inventory.

● Maintain stock of 75+ types of glass, and order as needed.

● Manage product sales of clay to students.

● Must be able to lift 75lb.

● Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Degree or comparable experience in studio arts.

Minimum of 3 years experience and knowledge working in all four studio categories: Pottery, Glass, Jewelry & Metals, and Woodturning

This is a full-time, exempt position. Hours are determined by the activities of the Teaching and Learning Department and may require some evenings and weekends.
