ARTIST: MICHAEL CLEMENS
Michael Clemens was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland, where the rivers, creeks, and Chesapeake Bay flow with inspiration. It was from these places that Clemens developed a love for cityscapes and landscapes. Clemens is a graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., with a degree in history. His work has appeared in more than 20 local photography exhibitions including at BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport, Maryland Hall, Ginger Cove, Hospice of the Chesapeake, Woods Presbyterian Church, Wimsey Cove Art and Framing, Soul Restaurant, Bay Woods of Annapolis, and the Goldstein Treasury Building. The artist is an active member of the Digital Photography Club of Annapolis and considers it a tremendous resource. He also participates in art exhibitions sponsored by the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County and the Annapolis Arts Alliance.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
Why photography? A photograph in an image-driven world can say a lot. I started to love photography in 1983 when I moved to Bermuda and wanted to capture the island’s serene beauty. How better than with a camera? What began as a hobby kept growing. The old-world beauty of Bermuda reminded me of Annapolis with its water-side charm and early American style. Annapolis is an extraordinary town. One of the oldest places in the U.S., it is a living and breathing American museum. It’s the oldest state capital still in continuous use. By the time George Washington came here to resign his commission as General in 1783, Annapolis was already 134 years old. The town remains a fascinating place to photograph and observe, on land or on the water.
