Jo Fleming Contemporary Art is delighted to present the 3-dimensional artwork of distinguished, award winning artist Gary Schlappal for the month of November. Gary Schlappal’s thoughtful research deals with the vessel and its relationships to: surface markings, visual language and the architectonic space in and around it.
We are exhibiting both ceramic/free standing forms and bowls; these are both hand-built and thrown on the wheel. The forms are finished with layers of underglazes, glazes and lusters, and multi-fired. Also included in the exhibition are mixed media wall forms. These are fabricated of luan plywood and pine woods, painted with layers, then sanded and sealed.
Gary was a full-time art professor at Kent State, Iowa State, the University of Wisconsin as well as the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He received 13 state and university grants as well as the National Endowments for the Arts Fellowship.
Exhibition Dates: November 1-29th
Artist Talk presented during the Annapolis Art Walk on Thursday, November 6, 5:30 – 6:00pm
