During the 1940s, British filmmaking duo of Powell and Pressburger released a group of films that secured their reputation as masters of the art. In this series we’ll watch four of their best. Distinctively different from other movies of this period, they represent arguably the finest ever made in Great Britain. Each film is introduced by area cinephile Ann Glenn with info about the film’s production, actors and a post-screening Q&A session.
I Know Where I’m Going (1945)
Considered one of the best scripts ever written, this gorgeously photographed film combines adventure, comedy, romance, and some high seas thrills. A head-strong, professional woman takes a carefully mapped out trip to the misty Scottish Hebrides to marry her millionaire fiancé—but all doesn’t go as planned.
