In this series we’ll watch four of their best. Distinctively different from other movies of this period, they represent arguably the finest ever made in Great Britain. Each film is introduced by area cinephile Ann Glenn with info about the film’s production, actors and a post-screening Q&A session.
The Red Shoes (1948) Monday, October 30 6pm
Film critic Roger Ebert called this film, “a dark, glorious homage to dance” but it’s also an exploration of the nature of all art and the high price of artistic success. The British Film Institute’s prestigious Sight and Sound journal places this “visually ravishing” film at number 67 on their list of the 250 Greatest Films of All Time. 2 hr. 15 mins. Not rated.
