SUMMARY:Queer Annapolis: A Historical Walking Tour of Love\, Resistance\, and Community
DESCRIPTION:Long before the Stonewall Uprising\, and far beyond New York and California\, queer people have lived\, loved\, and shaped American history. From the nation’s earliest days\, LGBTQ+ individuals have been part of Maryland’s story\, even when their lives were pushed into the shadows. This guided walking tour explores over three hundred years of LGBTQ+ history\, pairing familiar landmarks with often-overlooked stories: from a Revolutionary War general to an African American schoolteacher. Join historian Dr. Chris Mielke as we honor those who challenged norms\, built community\, and were brave enough to be themselves. \nThe tour will begin at The People’s Park at 44 Calvert Street and end at the Museum of Historic Annapolis at 99 Main Street. At the conclusion of the tour\, a small reception will be held at the Museum\, featuring light refreshments and an opportunity to continue the conversation. \nPlease wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather\, as the tour is held rain or shine. The tour route is approximately 1.25 miles long and includes elevation changes and uneven walking surfaces. \nAdvance registration required; space is limited. Recommended for ages 13+.

SUMMARY:Outdoor Painting Experience "Plein Air Made Simple" with Em Campbell
DESCRIPTION:A creative\, small group\, outdoor watercolor painting experience. \n\n\n\nJoin artist Em Campbell for a relaxed outdoor watercolor experience where you’ll learn how to paint “in the wild.” This 2-hour session is designed for all skill levels—from complete beginners to painters looking to loosen up and try painting outdoors or as the French say it plein air. Working in a small group at a local Annapolis park\, Em will guide you through the essentials of painting on location. \nYou’ll learn how to choose a subject\, simplify a scene\, and capture the feeling of a place without getting overwhelmed by detail. Along the way you’ll explore practical skills that make outdoor painting easier and more enjoyable. \nTopics include: \n• simple outdoor watercolor setup and supplies \n• choosing a paintable subject \n• basic composition for landscapes \n• working with a limited palette \n• adapting to changing light \n• keeping your painting loose and efficient \nParticipants will create a landscape painting during the workshop and leave with the confidence to continue painting outdoors on their own. A professional-grade traveler’s watercolor kit is available for purchase at registration\, thoughtfully stocked with everything you need to paint anywhere. \nSpace is limited to keep the group small and allow for personal guidance. This is an outdoor experience\, so please plan for all weather\, as well as bring a chair or blanket for comfort during your painting sessions. \nSecure your spot today by clicking here!

SUMMARY:Art Salon with Suzi Cordish
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE JOIN US FOR THIS VERY SPECIAL ARTS MONTH EVENT! \nAs part of our ARTS MONTH celebration\, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County invites you to a very special glimpse into an incredible local art collection. During the event\, Mrs. Cordish will discuss the collection\, followed by a tour of highlighted artwork. \nThe Cordish Art Collection\, a 40+ piece contemporary art collection by world-renowned artists\, including Andy Warhol\, described by The New York Times as an art museum experience in the comfort of a hotel. The theme of the collection is FUN\, and fun is what entices Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland guests return again and again. This multi-disciplined exhibit of artworks displayed throughout the hotel and casino conveys a sense of playfulness\, energy\, and excitement. The works unify our community of guests with joy\, wonder\, and beauty. \nMrs. Cordish believes art can transform one’s spirit and outlook\, and with that conviction in mind\, she set out to assemble an exhibit for the newly expanded Live! Casino Hotel. Her first find was $ (9): One Plate\, by Andy Warhol. She procured this screen monoprint in 2015 at an auction in New York. The playful dollar signs against a bright red background offer a nice wink to casino goers\, as well as to the brand’s signature red color. The piece is perfect for the setting. \nShe collected other works from there\, juxtaposing local Baltimore artists like Chul-Hyun Ayn with internationally based sculptors and painters. Though the collection features some of the most important contemporary artists working today\, relevance to the art world was not the driving standard behind her selections. \nThe conveyance of humor and fun influenced all acquisitions so that together they would represent the Cordish family’s inherent energy and happiness. Nothing means more to the Cordish Family than surprising and delighting their guests. We hope you can come join us for this very special and FUN event!
