DESCRIPTION:The Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum proudly announces its newest exhibition\, She Speaks: Black Women Artists and the Power of Historical Memory–a visionary presentation that examines the 250-year history of the United States of America through a Black Feminist lens. This exhibition brings together a powerful constellation of contemporary Maryland-based and internationally recognized Black women artists whose deeply personal and politically charged works bear witness to the past\, illuminate its impact on the present\, and conjure Afrofuturist visions. \nThrough a diverse range of media—including collage\, painting\, print\, photography\, textile\, installation\, and time-based media—She Speaks acknowledges Black women as active participants in the making of this country rather than passive bystanders\, highlighting artists who operate as historians\, archivists\, and scholars to tell their stories. Presented alongside rarely seen archival materials and family heirlooms\, the exhibition highlights the pivotal role Black women have played in shaping and preserving this nation since the Revolutionary era\, while envisioning liberated futures through cosmic speculation. \nFeatured artists include Elizabeth Catlett\, Alanna Fields\, Dr. Joan M. E. Gaither\, Charlyn Griffith-Oro\, Khaleelah I. L. Harris\, Martha Jackson Jarvis\, Fabiola Jean-Louis\, Jeannine Kayembe-Oro\, Zsudayka Nzinga\, Ada Pinkston\, Beverly Price\, Faith Ringgold\, Noreen Smith\, Darlene R. Taylor\, Jessica Valoris\, Savannah G. M. Wood\, and Alisha B. Wormsley. \nAs the nation collectively commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence through coordinated national\, Maryland 250\, and Annapolis 250 initiatives\, this exhibition enters the conversation by expanding how American history is remembered and told. By retracing and reinterpreting these histories through the voices of Black women\, the exhibition challenges audiences to consider whose stories have been preserved\, and whose have yet to be fully recognized. \nShe Speaks is curated by Martina Dodd\, BDTM Curator of Collections and Exhibitions\, with curatorial support from Leslie Rose\, Exhibit Manager. Lending institutions include Academy Art Museum\, Galerie Myrtis\, Howard University Gallery of Art\, Washington\, D.C.\, James E. Lewis Museum of Art\, and Reginald F. Lewis Museum. \nShe Speaks will open to the public with an Opening Reception and Black History Month celebration on Saturday\, February 7\, 2026. The exhibition will remain on view through January 16\, 2027\, with interpretive programming offered throughout the year to further engage with the exhibition’s themes of history\, memory\, resistance\, and Black women’s enduring contributions to the nation’s cultural and civic life.

DESCRIPTION:Have a digital camera you don’t know how to use? Want to brush up on your photography skills? Join photographer Kaitlyn McQuaid for “First Exposure\,” a 4-week digital photography workshop covering the foundations of photography. This workshop will run for 2 hours each week\, and we’ll cover one element of photography in-depth\, including Aperture\, ISO\, Shutter Speed\, Lighting\, and Composition. We’ll practice with in-class\, hands-on exercises\, and tips for capturing moments on your own outside of class. \n\nNotes\n\nYou will receive an email 1 week before class starts with additional information. \n\n\n\nClass Requirements\n\n\n\n\nA digital DSLR camera is strongly recommended but if you only have a sophisticated point and shoot\, we are happy to have you as well. Just be mindful that some of the point and shoots do not always let you adjust as many settings. With this in mind\, please check in with us if you have something different so our Instructor can see what kind of digital camera you have before the workshop starts.

DESCRIPTION:Introducing Mélange\nMaryland Federation of Art (MFA) is a small non-profit visual arts organization that could not exist without the help of our volunteers and supporters. \nTo thank our generous members for their support over the past year\, MFA holds two small group exhibitions of our Members’ works each March. This exhibition gives the artists a small section of wall space in Circle Gallery and the chance to display the body of work they’ve been working on lately and their favorite works they’ve made recently. \nArtists in this show are from all over Maryland and Pennsylvania – ranging from right here in Annapolis to Baltimore\, Chesapeake Beach\, and Silver Spring\, and Pt of Rocks. \nMost of our members are local\, but we have members from all over the world. \nMélange is a two-part small group exhibition held each year to thank our Member artists for their support of MFA over the past year. Mélange I will take place from March 4 – 15\, 2026\, with an in-person reception on March 7 from 4 – 6 PM. DESCRIPTION:Come to our next Muddy Creek Artists Guild DoART event led by artist Martha Mihaly Black and make a collage on either a small box or set of coasters. \nThe workshop is Sunday March 8\, 2026 from 1-330pm at the Davidsonville Family Recreation Center\, 3879 Queen Anne Bridge Rd.\, Davidsonville (in the white building on the right as you enter). \nStudents will “harvest” one or more small collages from a larger collage to create an artistic top for the box or coasters. Then they will use acrylic paint to add color to their piece\, along with a coat of finish medium.\nNo prior art experience is necessary. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced maker\, you’re sure to tap into your creative energy with this activity. Come alone or sign up with a friend (or two!) for an art-full afternoon with Martha. \n  \nCost is $35 per person. All supplies needed for the workshop are provided in the cost of your registration. DESCRIPTION:Teens and Adults Welcome! \nLive figure drawing meets killer playlist. A unique life drawing experience featuring models ranging from burlesque performers to professional life models\, in both costume and nude. \nBYO supplies. We do have drawing boards\, easels\, and basic drawing supplies available if you need them. Feel free to bring a snack or a drink to enjoy during the session. \nSketch Nights always start with some short warmups\, then 5-10 minute sessions\, and end with 20-minute drawing sessions as the model moves through a variety of poses. \nNew Monthly Schedule for 2026: \n\n\n\nSecond Thursdays – Themed costume sessions with creative concepts (Jan-December)\nFourth Thursdays – Dedicated nude figure drawing (January\, March\, May\, September)\n\n\n\n  \n2026 Themes to Inspire You: \nFrom “Winter Luxe” fur coats and vintage ski wear in January to “Steampunk” adventures in November\, we’ve curated twelve unique themes\, including Valentine’s Romance\, Navy Nautical\, Afrofuturism\, Gothic Halloween\, and Holiday Elegance. Each month brings a fresh visual story to sketch!
