The works on display in the exhibition encompass the range of media practiced by AACC’s Visual Arts faculty\, including painting\, sculpture\, ceramics\, graphic and digital design\, printmaking\, video\, and mixed media. \nWorks on view include Dawn Bond’s recent painting “And I said to the leaves\, ‘Reclaim me.’\,” which combines the human figure with abstract representations of gingko leaves\, while Matt Klos’s painting “Moonlight” is a study of the effects of light on a child’s dollhouse. Created during the Covid pandemic\, Sunhee Kim Jung’s “Island” series fills each canvas with single-colored leaves\, ensuring no color was repeated\, to channel both frustration and resilience. Jin Lee’s large-scale sculpture “Hostage\,” was the artist’s response to recent legislation restricting women’s reproductive rights. \nPlease join us for a panel discussion at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday\, November 5\, followed by an opening reception from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. \nVisit the Cade Gallery: Monday-Thursday\, 8:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. \nThe Cade Center for Fine Arts Gallery is on Anne Arundel Community College’s Arnold campus at 101 College Parkway.  Located on the main floor of the Cade building on West Campus\, the Cade Art Gallery features five exhibitions a year. The span of exhibiting artists is broad\, often including up and coming national and regional artists. – 7:00 p.m. SUMMARY:Maryland Hall Gallery Exhibit Reception: SIGNS OF VIDA
DESCRIPTION:In a new joint exhibition\, SIGNS OF VIDA\, Latin American artists Luis Bello (Mexico) and Mauricio Vega (Cuba) explore how risk and experimentation are evidence of life. \nPrints and pages from Vega’s independent underground fanzine\, Supervivo\, printed in Cuba between 2008 – 2020\, are juxtaposed against Bello’s large-scale abstract works built from layers of symbols\, color\, and emotional rhythm. Themes of transformation\, experimentation\, chaos\, and memory play out in Bello’s Basquiat and Twombly-inspired oil pastels\, which act as both a door and a mirror for Supervivo Collective’s imaginative and often pointed takes on the day-to-day of Cuban life. \n“When you are not conforming\, when you are experimenting\, when you are appealing to the ‘other’ and when you are kind of risky\, that’s a sign that you are alive\, a sign of Vida“ – Mauricio Vega. \nCome and experience this vibrant new gallery exhibit at Maryland Hall’s Martino Gallery.

SUMMARY:Fireside Revelry: A Colonial Twelfth Night Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 10th anniversary of our candlelit Twelfth Night concert\, a program that revives the seasonal music and poetry that once filled Annapolis homes during the Twelve Days of Christmas. This cherished tradition opens the nation’s 250th anniversary year with selections that reflect the elegance\, humor\, and midwinter festivities of the early Republic. \nThe performance features Empressa Ensemble\, led by soprano Elissa Edwards\, praised for her “glistening tone” (Early Music America). She is joined by internationally acclaimed violinist Shelby Yamin\, whose performances span venues from Mount Vernon to Versailles; fortepianist Dr. Joyce Wei-Jo Chen\, an award-winning scholar-performer and faculty artist at the University of Oregon; and orator Katrina Atsinger\, an Oxford-trained poet who is on the faculty of the Naval Academy. \nCome welcome the new year with a spirited Twelfth Night celebration in the historic ballroom! \nA pre-concert wine and cheese reception will be offered at 6:00 pm. The concert will start at 7:00 pm.
