SUMMARY:"LINEAGE" Ballet Theatre of Maryland and Full Circle Dance Company
DESCRIPTION:LINEAGE\nBallet Theatre of Maryland and Full Circle Dance Company\nTogether for One Night\nTwo of Maryland’s top professional dance companies—Ballet Theatre of Maryland and Full\nCircle Dance Company—will unite this spring in a performance that explores ideas of heritage\nand legacy\, with special focus on the contributions of women. The show LINEAGE will be\npresented one night only\, Thursday\, March 12\, 2026\, at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts. \nBlending the grounded power of modern dance and the soaring sweep of ballet\, LINEAGE\nshines a light on mothers and matriarchs as sources of creativity and sustenance. Each company\nwill present works that illuminate the theme\, and dancers from both ensembles will share the\nstage in a rousing final work that will have the audience clapping and stomping along. \nLINEAGE will also invite members of the audience to participate directly in the artistic process\nin a small but deeply personal way. One of the works on the program features a quilt created by a\nlocal artist that reflects real stories of female ancestors. Before the performance\, audience\nmembers will be invited to write on bits of fabric the names of their own female ancestors. These\nfabric scraps will be inserted inside the quilt\, honoring the ancestors of the LINEAGE audience\nin a concrete way on the stage. \nLINEAGE marks the third fruitful collaboration between two companies that belong to different\ndance traditions but that share many values and creative interests. \n“Both of these professional companies are genuinely interested in innovating together\,” said Full\nCircle Artistic Director Donna L. Jacobs. “Ballet and modern dance diverge in many ways\, and\nthey are inheritors of many different legacies\, but they also share some important roots. In \nLINEAGE\, we can explore the great value in our differences as well as our common ground. It\nis inspiring\, and artistically enriching\, for us to be together on this journey.” \n“This collaboration is deeply meaningful to Ballet Theatre of Maryland\,” said Artistic Director\nNicole Kelsch. “Working alongside Full Circle Dance Company allows us to celebrate the\ndistinct voices of ballet and modern dance while honoring the women whose legacies shape both\nour lives and our artistry.  Ballet and modern dance carry different traditions\, yet both are shaped\nby generations of women whose creativity\, strength\, and resilience continue to guide us;\nand LINEAGE invites our audiences to reflect on this heritage—not as something distant\, but as\nsomething living\, shared\, and personal.” \n“The Gordon Center is thrilled to be the host and home for this creative partnership with the\nsupport of the Maryland State Arts Council Touring Grant\,” said Sara Shalva\, the Gordon\nCenter’s Chief Arts Officer. “This type of performance\, which blends styles and genres\, and\nbuilds relationships on stage and off\, is exactly the mission-centered work our Baltimore County\nBased performing arts center is called to do.” \nPerformance Details \nLINEAGE:\nBallet Theatre of Maryland and Full Circle Dance Company\nThursday\, March 12\, 2026\, 7:30 pm\nGordon Center for Performing Arts\n3506 Gwynnbrook Avenue\nOwings Mills\, MD 21117\nTickets: $15-$35\, https://gordoncenter.com/event/lineage/

SUMMARY:CP presents spring musical: City of Angels
DESCRIPTION:Book by Larry Gelbart\, Music by Cy Coleman\, Lyrics by David Zippel \nDirected by Beth Terranova\, Music Directed by Michelle Bruno \nPerformances are Thurs-Sat at 8:00pm\, Sun at 2pm \nA smart and stylish film noir musical. In the late 1940s\, Stine\, a bookish writer of detective stories\, struggles to adapt his crime novel into a workable screenplay. As Stine tries to maintain some integrity in the backstabbing world of Hollywood\, his protagonist\, a hardboiled private eye named Stone\, fights for survival in a city full of criminals and opportunists. With wit\, humor\, and a fantastic Cy Coleman score\, City of Angels captures the snappy dialogue of a Raymond Chandler novel and the glitzy showmanship of classic Hollywood; the result is a crowd-pleasing musical unlike any other. \nPlease Note: Contains stylized violence\, sexual innuendo\, infidelity\, and period-specific sexism and racism. Contains strong language.

SUMMARY:Marriage for Love or Money? 19th Century Women Tell All in their Diaries
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this Zoom talk by Hammond-Harwood House director Barbara Goyette as we look at courtship and marriage for Maryland women in the first half of the 19th century. \nTheir diaries give us insight into how the influence of romanticism impacted the transactional features of marriage. In the years just beyond the European Regency period of Jane Austen and Bridgerton\, American women were finding their own ways to navigate partnerships. \nThis is a virtual event. Zoom link will be provided to participants after registration.

SUMMARY:"Sigrid Trumpy: New Work" Exhibition and Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:Throughout March (1-31) we are delighted to be showing “New Work” by Sigrid Trumpy. Although best known as a painter\, Sigrid also has extensive experience in etching and drypoint. This background plays an important role in her recent paintings\, where elements of printmaking naturally find their way into her work. Fine linear marks appear throughout the surfaces\, echoing the qualities of etched lines. \nRather than aiming for polished perfection\, Sigrid allows imperfections to remain visible. These irregular marks showing the movement of a living hand at work share her process as it unfolds.
