SUMMARY:She Speaks: Black Women Artists and the Power of Historical Memory
DESCRIPTION:The Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum proudly announces its newest exhibition\, She Speaks: Black Women Artists and the Power of Historical Memory–a visionary presentation that examines the 250-year history of the United States of America through a Black Feminist lens. This exhibition brings together a powerful constellation of contemporary Maryland-based and internationally recognized Black women artists whose deeply personal and politically charged works bear witness to the past\, illuminate its impact on the present\, and conjure Afrofuturist visions. \nThrough a diverse range of media—including collage\, painting\, print\, photography\, textile\, installation\, and time-based media—She Speaks acknowledges Black women as active participants in the making of this country rather than passive bystanders\, highlighting artists who operate as historians\, archivists\, and scholars to tell their stories. Presented alongside rarely seen archival materials and family heirlooms\, the exhibition highlights the pivotal role Black women have played in shaping and preserving this nation since the Revolutionary era\, while envisioning liberated futures through cosmic speculation. \nFeatured artists include Elizabeth Catlett\, Alanna Fields\, Dr. Joan M. E. Gaither\, Charlyn Griffith-Oro\, Khaleelah I. L. Harris\, Martha Jackson Jarvis\, Fabiola Jean-Louis\, Jeannine Kayembe-Oro\, Zsudayka Nzinga\, Ada Pinkston\, Beverly Price\, Faith Ringgold\, Noreen Smith\, Darlene R. Taylor\, Jessica Valoris\, Savannah G. M. Wood\, and Alisha B. Wormsley. \nAs the nation collectively commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence through coordinated national\, Maryland 250\, and Annapolis 250 initiatives\, this exhibition enters the conversation by expanding how American history is remembered and told. By retracing and reinterpreting these histories through the voices of Black women\, the exhibition challenges audiences to consider whose stories have been preserved\, and whose have yet to be fully recognized. \nShe Speaks is curated by Martina Dodd\, BDTM Curator of Collections and Exhibitions\, with curatorial support from Leslie Rose\, Exhibit Manager. Lending institutions include Academy Art Museum\, Galerie Myrtis\, Howard University Gallery of Art\, Washington\, D.C.\, James E. Lewis Museum of Art\, and Reginald F. Lewis Museum. \nShe Speaks will open to the public with an Opening Reception and Black History Month celebration on Saturday\, February 7\, 2026. The exhibition will remain on view through January 16\, 2027\, with interpretive programming offered throughout the year to further engage with the exhibition’s themes of history\, memory\, resistance\, and Black women’s enduring contributions to the nation’s cultural and civic life.

SUMMARY:Annapolis Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Annapolis Film Festival’s complete film lineup for its 2026 festival\, taking place March 26–29\, 2026. The highly anticipated event will showcase an exciting and diverse program of narrative and documentary features\, along with an exceptional collection of short films from around the globe\, transforming the city into a vibrant hub for filmmakers\, cinephiles\, and cultural tastemakers\, bringing filmmakers\, artists\, and audiences together in historic downtown Annapolis for four days of cinema\, conversation\, and connection.\n\n“This may be the best slate yet!” said Derek Horne\, Director of Programming. “We’re bringing audiences an extraordinary mix of powerful storytelling\, major festival favorites\, breakthrough filmmakers\, and unforgettable performances. It’s a lineup that truly reflects the energy\, diversity\, and cinematic excellence that defines the Annapolis Film Festival.”\nOpening Night will feature an elegant pre-reception for select passholders before the red carpet\, featuring culinary delights by The Palate Pleasers. This will precede the highly anticipated new film\, POWER BALLAD.\n\nLionsgate presents POWER BALLAD in association with 30WEST + Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland\, a Likely Story / Distressed Films production\, in association with Treasure Entertainment.\nWhen Rick (Paul Rudd)\, a past-his-prime wedding singer\, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig\, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career\, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer-director John Carney (Sing Street\, Once)\, POWER BALLAD is a feel-good story about music\, self-respect\, friendship\, and the price of ambition.\n\n“The Heartbeat of Film” theme reflects the unmistakable vibe of the Annapolis Film Festival: intimate yet electric\, thoughtful yet joyful. It honors the moments when audiences lean forward in their seats\, filmmakers share their truths\, and conversations spill out of theaters into the streets\, cafés\, and waterfront spaces of Annapolis. It’s where film doesn’t just play—it resonates.\n“We are so thrilled to kick off this year’s festival with a feel-good\, music-driven film like POWER BALLAD\, which really fits our vibe\,” say Festival Directors & Cofounders Patti White and Lee Anderson. \n\nThe Brian & Patricia Giese Foundation will serve as the Festival Presenter of the 2026 Annapolis Film Festival and the Annapolis Film Society\, marking a continued and deeply valued partnership rooted in community\, creativity\, and cultural impact. To learn more about the Brian & Patricia Giese Foundation\, please visit www.giesefoundation.org.\n\nThe film is followed by an exclusive after-party at the top of the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for pass and ticket holders\, featuring a live band to dance the night away.\n\nScreenings and events will be held at venues throughout Annapolis\, including Maryland Hall\, St. John’s College\, Asbury United Methodist Church\, and across the Historic Arts District\, with additional festival experiences such as industry panels\, filmmaker Q&As\, Coffee Talks at RamsHead OnStage\, student programs\, and late-night parties.\n\nThe 2026 slate reflects the Annapolis Film Festival’s commitment to presenting bold new voices\, award-winning films\, fresh narratives\, and timely documentaries that inspire conversation and connection. With 70+ films\, the slate includes spotlight screenings\, curated showcases\, and audience favorites fresh from major international festivals and distributors.\n\nProgramming highlights include: THE EYES OF GHANA—The Black Experience; ELIJAH PEEL—The Faith Experience with special guest actor Kevin Sorbo (HERCULES) and other cast; THIS IS NOT A DRILL—The Environmental Showcase; and AMERICAN PACHUCO—The Latine Experience; EXPEDITION ANTARCTICA: A Journey with Gary Jobson – The Sailing Showcase; and The Jewish Experience\, the documentary TOVAH\, includes a special Q&A with Tovah Feldshuh (NOBODY WANTS THIS\, Netflix.)\nIn addition to its public screenings\, the festival continues its strong community impact through filmmaker engagement and outreach initiatives that bring students\, local organizations\, and regional audiences into the cinematic experience.\n\nThe festival will close on Sunday with a festive final screening\, RUN AMOK\, and the audience– and juried-awards celebration\, Best of Fest\, which brings the community together to hear the winners and see their audience favorites replayed.\nPasses on sale now.\nTickets go on sale Friday\, March 6th\, at www.annapolisfilmfestival.com\n\nOpening Night tickets are $50 and include the after-party. SUMMARY:CP presents spring musical: City of Angels
DESCRIPTION:Book by Larry Gelbart\, Music by Cy Coleman\, Lyrics by David Zippel \nDirected by Beth Terranova\, Music Directed by Michelle Bruno \nPerformances are Thurs-Sat at 8:00pm\, Sun at 2pm \nA smart and stylish film noir musical. In the late 1940s\, Stine\, a bookish writer of detective stories\, struggles to adapt his crime novel into a workable screenplay. As Stine tries to maintain some integrity in the backstabbing world of Hollywood\, his protagonist\, a hardboiled private eye named Stone\, fights for survival in a city full of criminals and opportunists. With wit\, humor\, and a fantastic Cy Coleman score\, City of Angels captures the snappy dialogue of a Raymond Chandler novel and the glitzy showmanship of classic Hollywood; the result is a crowd-pleasing musical unlike any other. \nPlease Note: Contains stylized violence\, sexual innuendo\, infidelity\, and period-specific sexism and racism. Contains strong language.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Abjection and Alienation: Video Works of Martha Rosler and Pipilotti Rist (in the Videodrome)
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition presents two video works: “Vital Statistics of a Citizen\, Simply Obtained” (1977) by New York-based Martha Rosler\, and “Blutclip” (1993) by Zürich-based Pipilotti Rist. Both notably explore the lives of women\, challenge societal treatment of their bodies\, and critique political structures of injustice. Through seeing their work in communion\, we might better understand what it feels like to be separated from a sense of humanity and\, by contrast\, what it could mean to become whole again. \nAdmission\, Parking\, & Accessibility \nThe event is free. Complimentary parking is available in both the Edensword and Mellon Parking Lots off of St. John’s Street. Accessibility parking spots can be found in the Edensword Lot. \nImage: Courtesy of /m
