SUMMARY:The Temple of Our Survival: Alisha B. Wormsley Installation\, Performance & Conversation
DESCRIPTION:As the nation marks 250 years since its founding\, we are called to ask: whose survival made this nation possible? Join artist Alisha B. Wormsley for a special activation of The Temple of Our Survival (Children of NAN: A Survival Guide)—a mobile cinematic altar and gathering space dedicated to Black femme survival\, care\, and reMatriation. Presented in collaboration with artist Tsedaye Makonnen and harpist Megan-Joie Coleman\, this immersive event brings together ritual\, sound\, and collective storytelling as an act of historical reckoning and remembrance. \nThe program will feature a live ritual performance honoring Black femme survival\, including a guided group dreaming meditation and opportunities for audience members to participate by reading their own survival stories alongside those of historical Black femmes from Maryland and beyond — centering voices that the official record of nationhood too often left out. \nThe event will conclude with a panel conversation on the project and the ongoing practices of Black femme survival\, moderated by curator Martina Dodd\, exploring what it means to commemorate 250 years through the lens of those who were never meant to survive it — and did.

SUMMARY:Art Salon with Suzi Cordish
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE JOIN US FOR THIS VERY SPECIAL ARTS MONTH EVENT!\n\nJoin us on June 18\, 2026\, at 5-7 PM at LIVE! Casino and Hotel Maryland \nAs part of our ARTS MONTH celebration\, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County invites you to a very special glimpse into an incredible local art collection. During the event\, Mrs. Cordish will discuss the collection\, followed by a tour of highlighted artwork. \nThe Cordish Art Collection\, a 40+ piece contemporary art collection by world-renowned artists\, including Andy Warhol\, described by The New York Times as an art museum experience in the comfort of a hotel. The theme of the collection is FUN\, and fun is what entices Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland guests return again and again. This multi-disciplined exhibit of artworks displayed throughout the hotel and casino conveys a sense of playfulness\, energy\, and excitement. The works unify our community of guests with joy\, wonder\, and beauty. \nMrs. Cordish believes art can transform one’s spirit and outlook\, and with that conviction in mind\, she set out to assemble an exhibit for the newly expanded Live! Casino Hotel. Her first find was $ (9): One Plate\, by Andy Warhol. She procured this screen monoprint in 2015 at an auction in New York. The playful dollar signs against a bright red background offer a nice wink to casino goers\, as well as to the brand’s signature red color. The piece is perfect for the setting. \nShe collected other works from there\, juxtaposing local Baltimore artists like Chul-Hyun Ayn with internationally based sculptors and painters. Though the collection features some of the most important contemporary artists working today\, relevance to the art world was not the driving standard behind her selections. \nThe conveyance of humor and fun influenced all acquisitions so that together they would represent the Cordish family’s inherent energy and happiness. Nothing means more to the Cordish Family than surprising and delighting their guests. We hope you can come join us for this very special and FUN event! \n_________________________________________________________________________ \nThe Event Emcee\, Karen Barber\, PH.D.\, AACC Assistant Professor of Art History and Director of Cade Art Gallery. She brings her passion for art and curatorial practice into every class and exhibition\, helping students explore how art connects people\, ideas\, and cultures. \nA specialist in the history of photography\, modern art and curatorial practice\, Barber’s research explores interwar photography\, cameraless processes\, exhibitions and photography’s relationship to Native America. She has also worked in major photography collections at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art\, and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.

SUMMARY:Legacy & Light Chesapeake Arts Center's 25th Anniversary Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:CAC’s 25th Anniversary Light Exhibit -an invitation to celebrate who we are\, deepen community connection\, and imagine what’s next. \n\n\n\n\nLight \nChesapeake Arts Center’s 25th Anniversary Exhibition \nReception: June 25\, 2026\, 6-8 pm \nComplimentary drinks and light snacks will be served during the reception. \nAll Ages! \nFree to attend \nPatricia Barland Gallery \nAs part of the Chesapeake Arts Center’s 25th Anniversary celebration\, the Light exhibition will explore light as both a medium and a concept\, and will feature artwork that glows under UV/blacklight. CAC has illuminated pathways for artistic expression and community connection over the past 25 years\, and Light is essential to how we experience art—it shapes perception\, highlights detail\, and creates atmosphere—but it also symbolizes something larger: clarity\, possibility\, and forward movement. This exhibition invites artists to step into a reimagined space—one that symbolizes innovation\, experimentation\, and the evolving future of the arts at CAC. In this exhibition\, what was once unseen becomes visible\, reminding us that the future is not fixed\, but something we create together. \nLight is both a celebration and a reflection—an invitation to celebrate who we are\, deepen community connection\, and imagine what’s next. The Light Exhibition will be on display in CAC’s Patricia Barland Gallery from June 24 to August 30\, 2026.

SUMMARY:AND Creative Film Club (June) - El Topo (1970)
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at AND Creative Studio for a night filled with cinematic magic. Our film club is the perfect place for movie enthusiasts to gather\, watch\, and discuss films together. Whether you’re a casual movie-goer or a die-hard cinephile\, this event is for you!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to Expect\nCurated by our resident film nerds: Each month brings a carefully selected gem from the world of cinema’s hidden corners. Think surrealist masterpieces\, haunting silent films with live musical accompaniment\, and underground treasures that challenge perspectives and expand minds. \nThe evening unfolds as more than just a screening. Arrive early for pre-film discussions where our curators share insights and context. After the credits roll\, dive deeper into post-screening conversations that explore themes\, techniques\, and the lasting impact of these remarkable works. \nOf course\, no proper film night is complete without snacks and sips to fuel the experience and discussions. \nJune Screening: El Topo\, (1970) directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky\nConsidered to be the beginning of the “Midnight Movie\,” Alejandro Jodorowsky’s mind-bending odyssey\, El Topo (1970) is part spaghetti western and part spiritual acid trip. \nThe film follows El Topo\, a violent gunslinger\, who rides a mystical desert on horseback with his young\, naked son\, Hijo. After stumbling upon a ravaged village\, he avenges the slaughter and claims the gang leader’s mistress\, Mara\, for himself. Mara refuses to love El Topo unless he proves himself the greatest gunfighter. To accomplish this\, he abandons Hijo to a group of monks and embarks on a violent\, spiritual journey across the desert to confront four legendary “gun masters.” \nFull of haunting\, bizarre\, and beautiful imagery. Jodorowsky was a part of the Panic Movement\, a chaotic response to surrealism’s mainstream acceptance in the 1960s. This movement aimed to shock audiences and disrupt societal norms. Combine that with Jodorowsky’s personal mysticism\, and you get El Topo. A film that rejects normal/linear storytelling in favor of the subconscious\, the irrational\, and the symbolic. El Topo is a hallucinatory experience\, a bizarre\, dreamlike meditation on ego\, religion\, and the futility of violence. Ironically\, despite all of that\, El Topo marks the beginning of Jodorowsky’s impact on the cultural mainstream\, which can be seen to this day\, in the existence of the Midnight Movie to his famously unmade adaptation of Dune that influenced and created the visual identity of sci-fi cornerstones like Star Wars\, the Alien franchise\, and The Fifth Element. \nAs usual\, we will be discussing the film and the music afterward with drinks and nibbles. \nWe look forward to seeing you at AND Film Club! \nDoors open at 6 pm / Program rolls at 6:30 pm \n…………………………………….. \nCome curious\, leave inspired. \n\n\n\n\n
