SUMMARY:Abjection and Alienation: Video Works by Martha Rosler and Pipilotti Rist
DESCRIPTION:A visceral comparison of two influential works of video art: Blutclip (1993) by Swiss visual artist Pipilotti Rist and Vital Statistics of a Citizen\, Simply Obtained (1977) by American conceptual artist Martha Rosler. \nThis exhibition invites you to compare these two works; to explore how each show the female body as transmogrified by society into a thing both abject and alien. Of equal importance\, we invite you to interrogate the different ways human beings are systematically controlled and dehumanized—not only women\, but also ‘foreigners’ and ‘citizens’. These works dare to ask how a person can feel both alien and native at the same time\, bound or unbound\, home or not-at-home. They challenge the societal forces that create this rending state of being. \nThematic questions we encourage you to consider while viewing these works include: Why do we otherize people? How can an objectified person reclaim feeling human? How can I be whole again? \nThis exhibition is sponsored by Laura Ricciardelli and David Watt. \nHOURS AND ADMISSION: Thursday\, Saturday\, and Sunday\, 10am-6pm; Friday\, 2-7:30pm. DESCRIPTION:Show your Pride through art! Interested artists and crafters of all ages can submit their paintings\, drawings\, graphic designs\, photography\, collages\, poetry/written word submissions\, and handicrafts (anything that can be hung on the wall!)  to be part of our “Share Your Story With Pride” Art Show. \nArt submissions will be accepted at the Odenton Library\, Maryland City at Russet Library\, and Severna Park Library from Tuesday\, May 26 through Tuesday\, June 23. Please fill out the Submission Form to turn in with your artwork (attached below or available at the art submission branches). A virtual submission can be submitted here. \nThe Art Reception will be on Monday\, June 29\, from 6 pm – 7:30 pm. The art will be displayed in our meeting room until Tuesday\, August 11\, and can be viewed during our Queer Pride Hangout and Gallery Hours. \nDon’t know what to make? Come to one of our tie-in art programs at the Severna Park Library\, Odenton Library\, or Maryland City at  Russett Library. \nSubmissions are open to people of all ages connected to the broad and inclusive umbrella of the LGBTQ+ community. Art can be displayed anonymously or under a pseudonym. \nFor more information\, call the Odenton Library at (410) 222-6277.

SUMMARY:The Temple of Our Survival: Alisha B. Wormsley Installation\, Performance & Conversation
DESCRIPTION:As the nation marks 250 years since its founding\, we are called to ask: whose survival made this nation possible? Join artist Alisha B. Wormsley for a special activation of The Temple of Our Survival (Children of NAN: A Survival Guide)—a mobile cinematic altar and gathering space dedicated to Black femme survival\, care\, and reMatriation. Presented in collaboration with artist Tsedaye Makonnen and harpist Megan-Joie Coleman\, this immersive event brings together ritual\, sound\, and collective storytelling as an act of historical reckoning and remembrance. \nThe program will feature a live ritual performance honoring Black femme survival\, including a guided group dreaming meditation and opportunities for audience members to participate by reading their own survival stories alongside those of historical Black femmes from Maryland and beyond — centering voices that the official record of nationhood too often left out. \nThe event will conclude with a panel conversation on the project and the ongoing practices of Black femme survival\, moderated by curator Martina Dodd\, exploring what it means to commemorate 250 years through the lens of those who were never meant to survive it — and did.

Join photographer Kaitlyn McQuaid for “First Exposure\,” a 4-week digital photography workshop covering the foundations of photography. This workshop will run for 2 hours each week and we’ll cover one element of photography in-depth including Aperture\, ISO\, Shutter Speed\, Lighting\, and Composition. We’ll practice with in-class\, hands-on exercises\, and tips for capturing moments on your own outside of class. \n  \n\n\nNotes\n\nYou will receive an email 1 week before class starts with additional information. \n\n\n\nClass Requirements\n\n\n\n\nA digital DSLR camera is strongly recommended but if you only have a sophisticated point and shoot\, we are happy to have you as well. Just be mindful that some of the point and shoots do not always let you adjust as many settings. With this in mind\, please check in with us if you have something different so our Instructor can see what kind of digital camera you have before the workshop starts.

CAC has illuminated pathways for artistic expression and community connection over the past 25 years\, and Light is essential to how we experience art—it shapes perception\, highlights detail\, and creates atmosphere—but it also symbolizes something larger: clarity\, possibility\, and forward movement. This exhibition invites artists to step into a reimagined space—one that symbolizes innovation\, experimentation\, and the evolving future of the arts at CAC. In this exhibition\, what was once unseen becomes visible\, reminding us that the future is not fixed\, but something we create together. \nLight is both a celebration and a reflection—an invitation to celebrate who we are\, deepen community connection\, and imagine what’s next. The Light Exhibition will be on display in CAC’s Patricia Barland Gallery from June 24 to August 30\, 2026.

We do have drawing boards\, easels\, and basic drawing supplies available if you need them. Feel free to bring a snack or a drink to enjoy during the session. \nSketch Nights always start with some short warmups\, then 5-10 minute sessions\, and end with 20-minute drawing sessions as the model moves through a variety of poses. \nNew Monthly Schedule for 2026: \n\n\n\nSecond Thursdays – Themed costume sessions with creative concepts (Jan-December)\nFourth Thursdays – Dedicated nude figure drawing (January\, March\, May\, September)\n\n\n\n  \n2026 Themes to Inspire You: \nFrom “Winter Luxe” fur coats and vintage ski wear in January to “Steampunk” adventures in November\, we’ve curated twelve unique themes\, including Valentine’s Romance\, Navy Nautical\, Afrofuturism\, Gothic Halloween\, and Holiday Elegance. Each month brings a fresh visual story to sketch!

DESCRIPTION:Class Experience \nTake some time to yourself to use your hands\, create and socialize with like-minded creatives. No experience necessary – just the willingness to get out of the house\, open your mind and have some fun. \nPlay in art and creativity is so important\, this is a great way to spend at least one evening a month tapping into that part of your brain and maybe even leaving with a new skill\, art piece or new friend. \nThe goal of this monthly gathering is to build friendships and community through art\, discussion\, making and experimenting. \nOn hand at each meetup will be Kate Thomas\, a creative coach and playful artist.
