DESCRIPTION:Have a digital camera but don’t know how to use it? Want to brush up on your photography skills? Join photographer Kaitlyn McQuaid for “First Exposure\,” a 4-week digital photography workshop covering the foundations of photography. This workshop will run for 2 hours each week\, and we’ll cover one element of photography in-depth\, including Aperture\, ISO\, Shutter Speed\, Lighting\, and Composition. We’ll practice with in-class\, hands-on exercises\, and tips for capturing moments on your own outside of class. \n\nNOTES\n\nYou will receive an email 1 week before class starts with additional information. \n\n\n\nClass Requirements\n\n\n\n\nA digital DSLR camera is strongly recommended\, but if you only have a sophisticated point-and-shoot\, we are happy to have you as well. Just be mindful that some point-and-shoots don’t always let you adjust as many settings. Taking a page from professional artists\, we’ll explore how meaningful artwork grows from curiosity\, experimentation\, and trusting your own creative voice—not simply copying what has been done before. Each week\, we’ll look at artists from a variety of backgrounds\, styles\, and time periods\, discovering how they developed their ideas and learning from the risks they took along the way. This is a level playing field—for students who already feel confident in their artistic skills and for those who are still discovering their own talents. Artists learning from artists. SUMMARY:The Artist's Toolkit: Mixed Media Drawing: Ages 18+
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays\, 11/4/26-12/16/26\, 10am-12pm\, Room: 300\, Price: $248.40 (TFA26HR10) \nEnrich your art in this class that uses mixed media tricks and techniques to address common problems in drawing from observation. Learn to capture reflective surfaces like glass and water\, build rich textures\, and describe reflected light and shadow in fabric. This class uses traditional still life subjects as well as live plants\, fruits\, and flowers\, to teach observational drawing skills. During the course\, we’ll explore drawing materials and wet media including but not limited to: graphite\, charcoal\, watercolor\, and illustration markers. This is a companion class to Drawing from Nature but can be taken separately. This class includes one day of off-site drawing (location TBD) where we meet to draw locally. All skill levels welcome; all materials are provided in the classroom\, but artists may choose to bring their own materials if they like.
