Children are introduced to the concepts of basic movement\, rhythms and music for ballet and express themselves by focusing on different ballet story themes such as Cinderella\, Swan Lake\, Sleeping Beauty\, The Nutcracker and more!\nThe attire for all children’s classes\, except where otherwise noted\, is as follows: Girls: Black leotard\, nude or pink tights\, and corresponding nude or pink ballet slippers. Special emphasis is placed upon placement\, alignment and increased motor skills.\nThe attire for all children’s classes\, except where otherwise noted\, is as follows: Girls: Black leotard\, pink or skin-tone\, and corresponding pink or skin-tone ballet slippers. No jewelry. Hair should be neatly pulled back off of the face and neck. The Ballet Theatre of Maryland believes in providing everyone with access and opportunity to explore movement and dance. Our adaptive dance program is an inclusive class that specializes in meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities. This class promotes self-expression\, enhances spatial awareness\, improves motor skills and coordination\, fosters cooperation and collaboration all while building a strong community. Students can expect to explore creative movement and learn the fundamentals of classical ballet. At the start of the first class\, parents or caregivers will have the opportunity to disclose information to the instructor regarding the student’s disabilities/specific needs as a form of awareness to best cater to each student. In this class\, students may wear athletic type clothing such as leggings\, shorts\, tighter fitting shirts and socks or dance attire such as leotards and tights.
