SUMMARY:Midwinter Melange at The Galleries at Quiet Waters Park
DESCRIPTION:Beginning January 28 and continuing through March 29\, 2026 in the Willow Gallery will hang  “Midwinter Melange.”  It is a collection of artwork in various media from the artists associated with the Art Committee who run the galleries at Quiet Waters Park.  The show will exhibit works in pastel\, oil\, ceramics\, stitchery\, weaving\, dyed silk scarves\, computer-generated art\, and watercolor. Many of the artists are retired art teachers who have found a wonderful extension of their lives become artists themselves. \nThe Opening Reception will be February 15\, 2026\, from 1:30 TO 3:30 in the Visitor Center. A play on “The Debt You Owe\,” a previous series about national wealth built on native land\, this new series aims to put the focus on Black towns\, cities\, and communities that disappeared overnight. An attempt at celebrating what was created\, but also a realization of a current reality in their absence. While there isn’t a monopoly on gentrification\, it’s a game that African Americans know all too well. A game of cultural\, mental\, and physical survival on the move. \nThis exhibit is on view in our Patricia Barland Gallery from February 25 to April 7\, 2026.

DESCRIPTION:The Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum proudly announces its newest exhibition\, She Speaks: Black Women Artists and the Power of Historical Memory–a visionary presentation that examines the 250-year history of the United States of America through a Black Feminist lens. This exhibition brings together a powerful constellation of contemporary Maryland-based and internationally recognized Black women artists whose deeply personal and politically charged works bear witness to the past\, illuminate its impact on the present\, and conjure Afrofuturist visions. \nThrough a diverse range of media—including collage\, painting\, print\, photography\, textile\, installation\, and time-based media—She Speaks acknowledges Black women as active participants in the making of this country rather than passive bystanders\, highlighting artists who operate as historians\, archivists\, and scholars to tell their stories. Presented alongside rarely seen archival materials and family heirlooms\, the exhibition highlights the pivotal role Black women have played in shaping and preserving this nation since the Revolutionary era\, while envisioning liberated futures through cosmic speculation. \nFeatured artists include Elizabeth Catlett\, Alanna Fields\, Dr. Joan M. E. Gaither\, Charlyn Griffith-Oro\, Khaleelah I. L. Harris\, Martha Jackson Jarvis\, Fabiola Jean-Louis\, Jeannine Kayembe-Oro\, Zsudayka Nzinga\, Ada Pinkston\, Beverly Price\, Faith Ringgold\, Noreen Smith\, Darlene R. Taylor\, Jessica Valoris\, Savannah G. M. Wood\, and Alisha B. Wormsley. \nAs the nation collectively commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence through coordinated national\, Maryland 250\, and Annapolis 250 initiatives\, this exhibition enters the conversation by expanding how American history is remembered and told. By retracing and reinterpreting these histories through the voices of Black women\, the exhibition challenges audiences to consider whose stories have been preserved\, and whose have yet to be fully recognized. \nShe Speaks is curated by Martina Dodd\, BDTM Curator of Collections and Exhibitions\, with curatorial support from Leslie Rose\, Exhibit Manager. Lending institutions include Academy Art Museum\, Galerie Myrtis\, Howard University Gallery of Art\, Washington\, D.C.\, James E. Lewis Museum of Art\, and Reginald F. Lewis Museum. \nShe Speaks will open to the public with an Opening Reception and Black History Month celebration on Saturday\, February 7\, 2026. The exhibition will remain on view through January 16\, 2027\, with interpretive programming offered throughout the year to further engage with the exhibition’s themes of history\, memory\, resistance\, and Black women’s enduring contributions to the nation’s cultural and civic life.

In today’s fast-spinning world\, it’s easy to feel stressed\, overwhelmed\, or stuck. That’s when it’s time to paint your pause—and Mindful Art can help you do just that. In this welcoming space\, you’ll be invited to notice your breath\, thoughts\, and curiosity as you create art that is uniquely you. Using watercolors and markers\, we’ll explore the art of “just being.” Expect fun\, freedom\, and a little bit of messy magic. You’ll leave with a personal piece of art—a piece to inspire and renew your spirit.No experience needed\, every class is different so returning students are always welcome. DESCRIPTION:Completely new to watercolor or want to brush up on your brushwork? Whether you have painted with watercolor before or are a complete novice\, you can feel comfortable and accomplished each week with this watercolor class.\nArtFarm instructor and painter\, Cat Dolch\, will demonstrate and integrate a variety of techniques into each week’s lesson. With a new subject each week\, feel free to bring an inspiration reference photo (either printed out or on your phone) or we can provide some excellent references. \nChallenge yourself and get creative with some traditional brushwork and techniques\, color blending\, and composition in this multi-week class. \nAll materials provided\, but if you have your own paints or brushes you want to use\, feel free to bring them along with you!

DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, Mark Letzer explores the surviving silver from the workshops of Annapolis silversmiths in the 1700s. He not only illustrates the few surviving objects but illuminates the lives of these craftsmen not only as silversmiths but as members of a larger community. From taverns to social gatherings and their workshops\, Letzer will share the background and histories of these fascinating men. \nThe Historic Annapolis Virtual Lecture Series is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor.
