• About the Artist:

  Taikoza.

  This Japanese taiko drum group has dazzled audiences worldwide with its electrifying performances since 1995. Roughly translated, Taiko means big drums-and that’s exactly what Taikoza brings. Big Drums, powerful rhythms, and electrifying, room-thumping energy. This exciting group draws from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance to create a highly visual performance. With colorful traditional costumes and dynamic motion, Taikoza’s shows are immensely popular with audiences of all ages.

  Taikoza’s album were nominated for many “Just Plain Folks Music” Awards in 2004 and 2018. Taikoza has appeared on NBC’s Macy’s Thanksgiving parade on ESPN for the Sumo Tournament held at Madison Square Garden. You can also hear Taikoza in the Nintendo game “Red Steel 1 and 2.” Taikoza.com

  Music director: Marco Lienhard has performed with the legendary Taiko group in Japan for 18 years before moving to NYC.

    Description:
    

    Assemblies: Introduction to Japanese music. Presentation with Taiko drums and Bamboo Flute music with background explanation of the instruments and students experiencing the Taiko drums.

    Taikoza introduces students to the rich festival traditions of Japan. Accompanied by energizing taiko drums and Japanese flutes, students take a journey through different regions of Japan as they explore traditional folk songs and dances.

  • Kamishiba and Japanese music introduction- Japanese Story Telling with bamboo flutes and Taiko drumming

    Description:
    

    Kamishibai: The art of Japanese storytelling. Folk stories from Japan with music. The background of Japanese culture and tradition of storytelling in Japan. Ideas on how to create your own Kamishibai at school or home to share with friends and family. Simple objects can be used to create background music to your story- things that you can find easily at home to recreate the sounds of the Japanese Instruments.
