    • Stories on Stage

      Description:

In InterAct Story Theatre's Stories on Stage series, one performer weaves together story, drama, movement and song to bring multicultural folk tales to life.

Choose from any of the following: Mama-San Stories: Silly Smarts (grades preK-5) InterAct's Artistic Director Ali Oliver-Krueger weaves stories from her Japanese-American childhood with traditional Japanese mukashibanashi (Long-Ago Stories) in this funny east-meets-west program about using your smarts and the difference between "smart" and "wise".
Raise the Red Lantern!: A Chinese New Year's Celebration (grades K-5) Xin Nian Kuai Le! A storytelling celebration of Chinese New Year.
The Magic Tree Named Awongalema (Grades PreK-5): This heartwarming adaptation of a Zambian folk tale follows the quest of four animals who try to save the grasslands from famine and drought. All they have to do is remember the name of one magic tree...if only anyone could remember it!

    • Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One

      Description:

In this dynamic one-woman show, students follow Harriet Tubman on a journey through the Underground Railroad. Following the performance of Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One, students discuss the play with the playwright and actor, Gwendolyn Briley Strand. Gwendolyn has a wealth of knowledge about the life and times of Harriet Tubman. These discussions are a rare opportunity for the students to dialogue with an actor and playwright about a significant time in U.S. History.

The performance is designed for grades 3-12, and is available virtually.

    • KidStory Theatre Festival

      Description:

Inspired by the creativity of student writers in our schools, InterAct Story Theatre presents our KidStory Theatre Festival, a celebration of stories written by kids, for kids. Each year, InterAct’s teaching artists work with thousands of students across Maryland to create, refine, and dramatize original stories and plays rooted in curricular content; in the spring, we select the best of the best and transform them into short scenes, musical numbers, and puppet plays to be performed by professional actors in our KidStory Theatre Festival. InterAct’s teaching artists lead participating classes in a collaborative, creative drama-based writing process to create and dramatize a story rooted in the topic(s) your teachers have given us.

KidStory Theatre workshops are designed for every grade and for each specific classroom, and are available virtually this school year.

      Curriculum Connections

Our process is designed to connect with MCCSS in Reading Literature/Informational Text, Writing, and Speaking & Listening and National Arts Standards in Theatre.
