• About the Artist:

    Established in 1991, ensemble Barynya is the biggest and oldest professional Russian music, song and dance company outside of Russia. Barynya presents Russian, Tatar, Cossack, Siberian Nanai, Ukrainian, Roma Gypsy Tsyganskiy, Evreiskiy Jewish, Moldavian traditional dancing, music, songs, and virtuoso performances on instruments including the balalaika, balalaika-contrabass, and garmoshka (Russian folk button accordion). Barynya has performed in all 50 states and has been invited to perform at some of the most prestigious cultural venues in the U.S., including Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian, the National Constitution Center, the United Nations, and the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C., as well as hundreds of schools. Recent concert tours have included performances in Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Canada, Puerto Rico, Australia, Mexico, and United Arab Emirates.

      Barynya’s skillful musicians and dancers introduce the rich traditions and culture of Russia. Lively dances and songs from Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian, Jewish, Gypsy, Tatar and Siberian traditions are sung and played on folk instruments - garmoshka (Russian accordions), balalaika, and very large balalaika-contrabass. Vivid costumes, athletic dances and lighthearted humor enhance this memorable performance. Latest major concert tours included Lithuania, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Canada, Puerto Rico, Australia, and Mexico.
