Elizabeth Kendall

  • About the Artist:

    Elizabeth Kendall lives and works in Deale, MD. Her vessels, sculptures and installations have been exhibited in national and international venues and are in many permanent collections around the world.

    She has been a featured artist and contributing author for a variety of publications including: Ceramics Monthly, Pottery Making Illustrated, Clay Times, and Studio Potter. Her work has also been featured in Lark Publications 500 Cups and 500 Pitchers.

    Elizabeth is President and Co-founder of SoCo Arts Lab in Tracys Landing, MD where teaches a variety of art media and maintains her studio. She has a Creative Aging certification from MSDE and is also an occasional guest artist for AACPS APEX Arts.

    A recent graduate of the MSOD program at American University, Elizabeth infuses theories of group dynamics into her art and teaching. Elizabeth believes that creativity and collaboration are essential components to strong teams, strong individuals, and a more empathic and inclusive world.

      Description:

      Art with Paper This class will explore a variety of ways to create form, surface and meaning with paper. Students will work with a variety of papers and images to create abstract collage and photo montages, learn a variety of paper folding techniques to make small sculptures and create hand-made books such as concertina, blizzard and piano-hinge. Throughout the process we will apply elements of design such as contrast, proportion, repetition, pattern, use of white space, and movement. Students will work on individual and group collaborations.

      Course can be designed to accommodate single session or multiple visits. program can also be designed to provide teacher training

    • Form and Surface: Art and Science of Clay

      Description:

      Program can be lecture, demonstration or hands on. Student will learn about chemistry, physics, artistry of clay.

      We will explore a variety of surface techniques: sgraffito, glazing, monoprinting, stamping, sprigs, and handbuilding techniques: pinch, coil, slab. If there is a wheel available I am happy to demonstrate

      7 - 12

      Based on MSAC creative process map, artist habits of mind and 21st century learning skills. Projects can also support specific themes as determined by the host organization.

      Program Costs:

      Program costs depend on type and length, number of students/participants: Does facility have kilns? Will I need to bring work back to my studio to fire?

      Travel requirements or restrictions:

      I am happy to travel with mileage compensation. Distant sites will need to provide overnight accommodations.

      Required Materials:

      I can provide some tools. The scope of work will determine what is needed. Site will need to purchase/provide clay and any paper materials.

      Additional Notes:

      I am happy to develop programming specific to learning goals and interests of the host site. Information about a variety of classes and workshops for students and organizations can be found at www.kendallcreativechange.com.

      I am also happy to develop art programming that supports curriculum goals of other disciplines: physical properties of clay; glaze chemistry, etc.
